SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team suffered its first conference loss against Johns Hopkins, 9-3, on Tuesday afternoon.
Austin Burgess led the Garnet with three RBI on a pair of doubles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the second inning. Johns Hopkins singled in a run and then cleared the bases with a grand slam.
Owen Webb entered the game in relief to escape the inning with no further damage, 5-0.

Jeremy Jensen escaped a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning. The freshman entered the game with the bases juiced and induced a ground out to end the inning. He then tossed a clean sixth inning as he closed out the frame with a strikeout.

Max Roffwarg doubled to left field to open the sixth inning, while
Kirk Terada-Herzer drew a walk on the following at bat. Burgess then came through with a one-out double to left field to plate two runs, 5-2.
- Johns Hopkins rallied for a pair of two-run innings in the seventh and eighth. Burgess then closed out the scoring with an RBI double off the center field wall to plate
Luke Mutz, who reached base on a two-out single.
