Baseball Clinches Centennial Tournament Berth, Burgess and Mutz Extend On-Base Streaks

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team clinched a Centennial Conference postseason berth with a 11-6 victory over Muhlenberg College on Tuesday.

Austin Burgess and Matthew Silvestre led the offense with excellent afternoons at the dish. Burgess collected a team-high three RBI with a home run, while Silvestre was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.

Burgess and Luke Mutz both extended their on-base streaks this afternoon. Burgess has now reached base in 25 straight-games, which includes an active 10-game hit streak. Mutz's streak now sits at 21 games.

The reigning Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week, Zach Camp, continued to dominate in the month of April with another shutout appearance. Camp tossed three hitless innings of relief, while striking out four batters. The senior has allowed one run over his last 21 innings, while striking out 36 batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jensen escaped an early inning jam after walking the leadoff batter. The freshman stranded the runner at third base with one-out after inducing a shallow flyout and a strikeout to end the opening frame. Jensen then tossed a scoreless second to complete two-shutout innings.

- Andrew Olsen doubled down the left-field line to open a six-run third inning, then touched home for the game's first run on a throwing error. Silvestre then singled in a run, while another scored on a throwing error. Nate Jbara then plated a run with a single, while Kirk Terada-Herzer doubled in two runs on a blooper to shallow right, 6-0.

- Burgess added another run in the fourth inning with a home run to left-center field. The Muhles then closed the gap with five runs in the fifth inning. Max Roffwarg limited the damage by gunning down a runner at home plate for the final out. The shortstop cut off the throw from Terada-Herzer before delivering a strike from shallow center field to get the runner at home by several feet, 7-5.

- Muhlenberg added another run with a solo homer in the sixth inning. Camp then answered with a masterful seventh inning as he retired the side on eight pitches while striking out two batters. The reigning Pitcher of the Week did not throw a ball the entire inning. Camp then escaped an eighth inning jam by stranding two runners in scoring position with a strikeout looking.

- In the eighth inning, Burgess added a pair of insurance runs with a two-run bloop single to right-center field. Silvestre then doubled in another run, before Jbara added one more with a ground ball to second, 11-6.
