SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse picked up a big Centennial Conferece win as they defeated Muhlenberg College, 11-8, on Wednesday evening at Clothier Field Stadium.
Eleanor Miller led the way with six points, while
Abigail Love and
Helena Irvine each recorded three points. Miller collected five goals and an assist, while Love recorded three helpers and Irvine scored three times.
Helen Stafford held things down on the defensive end with 15 saves on 25 shots faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Almost six minutes had passed in the game before either team lit up the scoreboard. Nicole Steiner gave the Mules the early lead, but Miller would tie the game at one with a little under four minutes to play in the opening frame. The senior gave the Garnet its first lead of the game with an unassisted goal as the clock sat at 21-seconds.
- Muhlenberg opened the second quarter with three straight goals, but Irvine put an end to that streak as she found the back of the net with 47-second left in the half. Miller, who assisted the Irvine goal, tied the game at four with the help of Love as there was 21-seconds left in the half. Swarthmore scored four of the six goals in the fourth, as
Kyra Hall netted a gutsy goal with 6:14 remaining to give Swarthmore a two goal edge.
- Miller, Irvine and
Isabela Bloomquist gave Swarthmore a three goal lead to open the third quarter. The Mules would get within one, but
Andie Kapiloff tallied a free-position goal on a foul drawn by Bloomquist.

Emma Holub picked up a team five ground balls, and
Francesca Richardson added four. Irvine led the way with five draw controls.

The Garnet (8-4, 3-3) host Haverford College on Saturday at Clothier Field. First draw between the Garnet and Fords is set for 3:00 p.m., with senior day celebrations set to begin prior to the home finale. Swarthmore currently sits in fourth place in the Centennial Conference standings, just two games behind the Fords.
