Baseball Wins Fifth-Straight with Conference Sweep at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team won its fifth-straight conference matchup with a doubleheader sweep at Dickinson College on Saturday night. 

Stellar pitching led the Garnet to their second-straight conference sweep. Edward Berry tossed a scoreless gem to open the series. The sophomore threw seven shutout-innings with a season-best nine strikeouts to earn his second victory of the season. 

Jeremy Jensen got the ball in the finale as he set the tone with 2.2 strong innings of scoreless baseball. Zach Camp then finished off the day with 3.2 innings of work, while striking out seven batters with zero earned runs. Camp has tossed 11-straight innings without allowing an earned run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Luke Mutz and Austin Burgess started a one-out rally with back-to-back singles in the first inning. Mutz then scored the game's first run on an RBI groundout by Michael Sepe. Berry coasted through the first three innings without allowing a hit. The sophomore struck out two batters and allowed just one baserunner the first time through the order, 1-0.

- Kirk Terada-Herzer plated Paul Cooke with a two-out triple in the fourth inning. Cooke then added on in the sixth with an RBI double down the right field line. In the bottom of the frame, Berry kept the Red Devils scoreless with a 1-2-3 shutdown frame, 3-0. 

- Burgess plated two runs with an RBI triple to right center to plate Mutz. Burgess then came around to score from third on a throwing error, 5-0. 

- The Garnet added an insurance run in the eighth and ninth innings. Mutz singled home a run in the eighth, while Terada-Herzer drove home a run with a fielder's choice in the ninth. Alexander Rimerman shut the door with a scoreless two frames to secure the Garnet victory, 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Swarthmore picked up where they left off in the opener with three runs in the first inning. Sepe plated the first run with a single to the shortstop, while Matthew Silvestre singled to left field to add another score. Nate Jbara then collected the third run with a sacrifice bunt to plate Sepe, 3-0.

- Jeremy Jensen put together another strong performance as Swarthmore's opener. The freshman started the game with a scoreless 2.2 innings as he retired the first seven batters faced. After allowing two baserunners to reach on an error and a single in the third, the Garnet called on Owen Webb, who struck out the only batter he faced to escape the jam.

- After reaching base on a single to open the fourth inning, Cooke came around to score on a wild pitch to add another run, 4-0. Rohan Cherukuri then cruised through his first two innings as he faced the minimum.

- Swarthmore plated a run on an error in the sixth inning, but Dickinson answered back with its first run of the day on an RBI double. Camp then entered the game midway through the frame and struck out a batter looking to escape a bases-loaded jam, 5-1. 

- Dickinson added another run on an error in the eighth inning, but Camp was able to escape further damage with a strikeout to end the threat.
