SWARTHMORE, PA. - No. 29 Swarthmore College Men's Tennis earned a non-conference victory over No. 40 Christopher Newport University on Sunday afternoon. The Garnet defeated the Captains with a score of 6-3 at the Michael Mullan Tennis Center.
Swarthmore improved 7-0 at home, and 2-2 against teams ranked in the ITA Division III National Rankings this spring.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In doubles action, Swarthmore tallied a 2-1 lead. At the number two position,
Charley Force and
Rushil Patel tied the match at one with an 8-3 victory.
Grant Dill and
John Nichols-Daly battled to an 8-7 victory at the number one position. The duo earned the victory with an 8-6 score in the tiebreaker.
- In singles action, Force,
Kevin Jiang,
Phil Rehwinkel and
Josiah Myers-Lipton each earned victories. At the number one position, Force earned a hard fought three set victory with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.
- Finishing first, Jiang battled his way to a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 victory at the number spot. At the number four position, Rehwinkel clinched the match for the Garnet as the sophomore rallied to a 6-0. 6-2 victory.
- Myers-Lipton notched a 6-4, 6-1 decision at the number five position.

The Garnet (10-3, 3-0 CC) return to the court on Saturday as they travel to take on Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. The Centennial Conference match is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
