Volleyball Sweeps Haverford in Regular Season Finale, Wins Eighth-Straight

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team capped off the regular season with a 3-0 victory over Haverford College on Saturday afternoon. 

The Garnet end the season on an eight-game win streak and have won seven-straight versus Centennial opponents. Swarthmore secured the second seed in the Centennial Tournament with a 9-1 conference mark and will host the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4. 

Coming off her GameChanger/AVCA Player of the Week selection, Kaylee Zhang continued to showcase her dominance with a team-high 12 kills and five service aces. Trisha Razdan also had double-digit kills with 10 total, while Chloe Mayhue added seven kills.

Zindzhi Montgomery was a force in front of the net with a game-high five blocks, while Ellie Streeper continued to pace the Garnet defense with 24 digs. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet forced the first time out of the game after jumping out to a 9-4 advantage. Mayhue led the charge with two kills during the opening run. Zhang put together a crafty kill and then responded by burying a strike into the hardwood to spark a 5-1 rally for Swarthmore. After falling behind by seven, the Fords rallied for three-straight, before Razdan responded with a kill to end Haverford's run. Haverford rallied for the lead until Montgomery regained the lead with a monstrous kill and then Mayhue clinched the set with her team-high fifth kill of the set, 25-23.

- Swarthmore carried momentum from a thrilling opening set victory as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second set. Montgomery and Razdan capped off the run with a double-block, which prompted the Fords to call a timeout. The Garnet began to put the Fords away with a 7-2 run midway through the set. Swarthmore went on to take the second set, 25-18.

- The Garnet kept its foot on the pedal with the first eight points of the third set. Swarthmore continued to run away with the set as they built an 11-point advantage over the Fords. Razdan prompted a Fords timeout with a service ace to take a 16-5 lead. Haverford climbed back into the game with an 8-1 run to pull within four points, 17-13. The Fords pulled within one point until the Garnet gained a much-needed boost with consecutive kills from Montgomery and Razdan. Swarthmore went on to clinch the match on a Razdan kill, 25-21.
