Men’s Soccer Bested By Haverford In Season Finale

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Falling in their last game of the season, the Swarthmore men's soccer team lost to Haverford College by a score of 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 29th.

The Garnet saw their goal come off the foot of first year Joseph Eyiolowope, securing the Garnet's only score of the contest in the 31st minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-    Despite both squads playing for nothing but pride, the competition remained fierce, as one of the oldest rivalries in collegiate athletics entered another chapter into the history books.
-    Haverford struck first and fast, scoring two goals before eight minutes had passed. The first goal came in the form of a Swarthmore own goal in the 5th minute, while the second came in the seventh to put the Fords up 2-0 early into the match.
-    The Garnet responded in the 31st minute, with Eyiolowope expertly fielding a cross from junior Oliver Garcia before slamming the ball past the keeper into the back of the net, putting Swarthmore on the board at 2-1. That score would hold going into halftime.
-    While both squads battled, neither were able to find paydirt in the second half. The Garnet smothered the Haverford attack in the latter half of the game, holding the Fords to just five shots and one earned corner.
-    While unable to find an equalizer, the Garnet were not without opportunities of their own, securing eight shots and one corner kick in the second half.
-    The Garnet end the season with a record of 6-7-4, 1-6-2 in conference play.
