SWARTHMORE, PA - No. 18 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball took care of business as they knocked off Centennial Conference foe, Franklin & Marshall College, 93-56, on Saturday afternoon at Tarble Pavilion. The Garnet improve to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in league play, while the Diplomats fall to 4-7 and 1-3.
Swarthmore opened the first eight minutes of action with a 21-6 lead, and it was all the Garnet needed. The home team held the Diplomats to 19 points and 27% from the field in the first half. Franklin & Marshall was 0-of-7 from three point range in the opening stanza and 2-of-14 on the game. Swarthmore a perfect 21-of-21 from the free throw line on the game, including 13-of-13 in the second half. The Garnet forced the Diplomats into 19 turnovers, and scored 21 points off of those change in possession.
Out of the 93 points scored by Swarthmore, 55 of them came players off of the bench.
TJ Chapman and
Justin Tucker each contributed with ten points, while
Major Eason added six points for the Garnet. Tucker shot 4-of-5 from the field, including a perfect 2-of-2 from distance.
Aidan Godfrey, who had a career high six points, tallied six points of the bench for Swarthmore. Chapman, Eason and Godfrey were a combined 15-of-15 from the free throw line.
Vinny DeAngelo and
Conor Harkins led the charge with 13 points, as Harkins was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Michael Caprise grabbed seven rebounds for the Garnet, as
George Corzine contributed with four boards. After grabbing 13 offensive rebounds, the Garnet scored 12 second-chance points. Caprise led the way wtih three offensive board, while
Matt Mulvey added a pair.
The Garnet made precise passes to their teammates as they recorded 17 assist, led by three from each Chapman and DeAngelo. Nine different players recorded at least one assist in the game.
Swarthmore is back in action on Tuesday as they travel to take on No. 12 Johns Hopkins (9-1, 5-0 CC) in a crucial Centennial Conference game.
