CARLISLE, Pa. - Despite
Dana Bandurick tallying her ninth double-double of the season, Swarthmore College Women's Basketball couldn't overcome a furious second-half rally from host Dickinson College, ultimately losing to the Red Devils, 53-50, on Saturday afternoon.
The game opened as a back-and-forth affair, with Dickinson jumping out to a 5-2 lead before
T Sallie drained a three-pointer fresh off the bench to tie the score. A matching three from the Red Devils put the hosts back ahead at the five-minute mark before a Bandurick layup sparked a 12-5 run for Swarthmore to give the visitors a 17-13 lead after one period.
The second quarter began in a stalemate until an
Alyssa Hayashi jumper nearly four minutes into the frame pushed the Garnet ahead, 19-13. The Red Devils would battle back, though, going on a 5-0 run to cut their deficit to one point with 3:42 left in the frame. Swarthmore then countered with a run of its own, as four points from Bandurick and two each from
Jordana Sampson and
Katelyn Becker gave the Garnet a 27-21 advantage at halftime.
Swarthmore's six point lead wouldn't last long. In the third quarter, the Red Devils roared back with a vengeance, hitting seven field goals en route to an 18-9 run that pushed the hosts back ahead, 39-36, at the whistle.
In the fourth, the Garnet again mounted a comeback, regaining the lead with 5:52 left to play on a layup by Bandurick. Seconds later, however, Dickinson matched with two points of its own, jumping ahead 44-43. Despite clutch baskets from Hayashi and Becker down the stretch, Swarthmore would never regain the lead.
Bandurick finished the afternoon with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Hayashi tallied 12 points, and Sallie added seven points, four rebounds, and two steals off the bench for the visitors. The loss dropped the Garnet to 9-5 on the season and 5-4 in Centennial Conference play. The Red Devils improved to 6-9 overall and 5-6 in conference action.
