SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Men's Swimming defeated Dickinson College, 212-50, as the Garnet celebrated Senior Day at Ware Pool. Swarthmore improves 4-1 overall and 4-1 in Centennial Conference action, while the Red Devils drop to 3-5 and 1-4.
Prior to the meet, head coach
Karin Colby and the rest of the coaching staff honored five members of the Class of 2022.
Ethan Bergmann,
Riley McLaughlin,
Jeremy Rockaway,
Horace Shew and
Dylan Torrance were praised for their dedication to the program, as well as their academic achievements.
All 14 events competed on Saturday saw a first place finish by the Garnet.
In the pool, Shew and Rockaway wasted no time as they team up with
Andrew Karpenko and
Ethan Marotte in the 200-medley relay. The group won the event in 1:34.79. Bergmann teamed up with
Tristan Haeger,
Ben Wesley and
John Grey Crosby to earned a second place finish in 1:37.84.
Finn Conaway tallied a first place finish in the 1,000-free with a time of 10:02.92.
Ben Freeman, Bergmann and
Mats McGrath were the top three finishers in the 200-free. Freeman touched the wall with a time of 1:43.39, while Bergmann finished in 1:45.07 and McGrath ended with a 1:46.31.
Jacob Sherman won a pair of events for the Garnet. In the 100-back, the first-year touched the wall in 54.14. Sherman won the 200-back with a time of 1:57.42.
In the final event of the afternoon, four members of the senior class teamed up to win the 200-free relay in 1:28.90. Bergmann led off the event as he competed with Rockaway, McLaughlin and Shew. It was a sprint to the finish as Shew edged out the runner-ups from Dickinson.
The Garnet return to the pool on Saturday as they travel to Gettysburg, Pa. to take on the Bullets. The Centennial Conference battle is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
