NORTH CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Swarthmore College Baseball closed out the spring break trip to Florida with a 8-1 victory over Baldwin Wallace University.
Swarthmore finished the break with 7-2 and improves to 10-2 on the season. The Yellow Jackets fall to 5-5.
Cole Beeker knocked in the opening run of the game with an RBI single to left field. Along with
Holden Bridge, the senior came around to score on a single up the middle by
Austin Burgess. The Yellow Jackets added a run in the bottom half of the inning as Cameron Jones knocked in Alex Ludwick on a single to right field.
Jared Gillen would score in the top of third to give Swarthmore back that run. The center fielder scored from second base on an RBI single to left field by
Coleson Hebble.
In the top of the seventh,
Josh Bein and
Holden Bridge crossed the plate as Hebble reached base on an fielding error by Tony LoParo. Hebble came around to score on an RBI single by Burgess.
Bein notched a base hit up the middle to score Gillen. Gillen finished the game 2-for-5 from the plate with a pair of runs scored, and Burgess was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.
Luke Mutz, Bridge, Beeker and Bein each collected a base hit.
Zach Camp allowed one hit, three walks and recorded a strikeout in five innings of work on the mound.
The Garnet move to 3-0 in the last three games against Baldwin Wallace University. Swarthmore defeated the Yellow Jackets in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, 11-6, and earlier this week with a 3-1 victory on Saturday.
