Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

20/20 Vision! Win Streak Continues For No. 1 Swat

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Undefeated Swarthmore College Men's Basketball upped its win streak to 20 games on Thursday night, bouncing the Muhlenberg College Mules 75-62.

Swarthmore (20-0, 13-0 Centennial) has now won 20 games or more in a season for each of the past five years. Also of note are the 25 consecutive contests won in the friendly confines of Tarble Pavilion, dating back to last season.

Muhlenberg dipped to 14-6 overall and 7-6 in the conference with the loss.

Swarthmore freshman guard Vinny DeAngelo scored a season-high and game-high 21 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor and 100 percent (7-for-7 from the free-throw line).

Senior forward Nate Shafer had an impressive stat line: 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, 13 rebounds, five blocks, three steals and three assists.

Zac O'Dell also registered a double-double, tallying up 14 points and 12 rebounds (six on the offensive end).

Colin Shaw pitched in eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.

The Garnet, led by DeAngelo's 7-for-7 night at the stripe, shot 85.7 percent from the free-throw line, the team's second best performance this season.

Both teams shot just above 40 percent from the field, but 19 offensive rebounds gave Swarthmore a slew of more opportunities to shoot. The Garnet grabbed 53 rebounds to Muhlenberg's 31, and had a +20 rebounding margin for the fourth time this season. Swarthmore is tied for the fifth-best rebounding margin per game nationwide at +10.5.

Swarthmore trailed early in Thursday night's contest, but turned that around and led by seven with five minutes left in the first half following a DeAngelo triple.

A jumper in the lane with 15:31 left in the second half bumped Swarthmore's lead into the double digits for the first time, 46-36. The Garnet dealt a fatal blow to the Mules with 15 minutes left when DeAngelo made a layup and-one, Shafer dropped in a layup, and then DeAngelo knocked down a 3-pointer from straightaway.

A banked in 3-pointer by forward Michael Caprise gave Swarthmore a 21-point advantage and left no doubt as to what the outcome of the game would be.

Swarthmore hosts Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
