SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore College Baseball earned a 6-4 victory over New Jersey City University on a cold Saturday afternoon.
The Gothic Knights (0-3) opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning as Brandon Rivera scored from third base on a passed ball.
The Garnet were held hitless through four innings of play, until
Emmet Reynolds singled on a hit to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning. NJCU couldn't get the ball back into the infield cleanly and the freshman moved to third as Justin Vizzoni over threw the pitcher Paul Tannucilli.
Reynolds scored on an RBI single through the right side by
Paul Cooke to tie the game at one run a piece. In the top of the sixth,
Ryan Warm sat the Gothic Knights down in order with a flyout to center and two strikeouts.
Cole Beeker added a run in the bottom of the sixth with a homerun to right field. Collecting his first homer of the season, the senior gave Swarthmore a 2-1 advantage.
Coleson Hebble added an RBI single to center field as
Jared Gillen crossed the plate for the Garnet.

Luke Mutz in the bottom of the seventh on a ground out to second base.
In the bottom of the seventh, Swarthmore added two runs for a 6-1 lead as
Kenji Yoshii laid down a suicide squeeze bunt.
Ari Fierer scored from third base, while Hebble scored from second base as Aaron Ayers threw Yoshii out at first base.
Warm collected the win after allowing three runs on six hits, one walk, and struck out eight.
The Garnet, improving to 3-0 on the season, collected seven hits and five walks. NJCU notched nine hits, struckout 13 times and left 11 on base. Game two of the doubleheader was postponed due to the weather. A makeup date has yet to be determined. Swarthmore returns to action on March 7th against Heidelberg University in North Charlotte, Florida. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
