HOBOKEN, N.J.—No. 1 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball held off another challenging opponent on Sunday afternoon, defeating the 9-2 Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks 74-71. The Garnet improved to 11-0 on the season after taking the final non-conference game of the Year.
Swarthmore held an eight-point lead with 43 seconds to go, but timely 3-pointers from Stevens helped cut the gap to just two points with just six seconds remaining.
Garnet guard Abass Sallah was sent to the line and split his free throws. After his attempt rimmed out, Zac O'Dell came up with the game-saving offensive rebound and the Garnet ran out the clock with the win.
Swarthmore finished with one fewer rebound than the Ducks, finishing with a negative rebounding margin for just the second time this season.
Conor Harkins scored a team-leading 15 points while making 5-of-14 attempts from 3-point range. Zac O'Dell pumped in 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and four blocks. In total, the Garnet blocked nine shots.
Vinny DeAngelo started for the second consecutive game and pitched in 11 points and four assists.

The Garnet opened the game with an 8-0 run, but Stevens tied the game at 13-13. Swarthmore responded with a 13-0 outburst capped off with Michael Caprise's fast-break layup following a steal by Ryan Ingram.
Stevens hung around and pulled back to within two points by halftime.
A layup by Nate Shafer with 9:18 left in the game helped bump Swarthmore's lead back up to double digits, and it remained a three-basket game until the final minute.
Swarthmore closed out a five-game stretch in which its opponents now have a combined record of 41-13.
The Garnet pick up Centennial Conference play on Thursday at Muhlenberg against the 9-2 Mules.
