BALTIMORE, Md. – Swarthmore College Volleyball battled nationally ranked and top-seeded Johns Hopkins in the Centennial Conference semifinals on Saturday.
The Garnet fell in three sets with scores of 16-25, 18-25 and 21-25.
Both teams battled in the third set, as the Garnet and Blue Jays exchanged points. On five separate occasions, Swarthmore and Johns Hopkins were tied.
Trailing 21-16 in the third frame, Swarthmore rallied for two consecutive points. With
Sierra Tyson serving, the Garnet reached within three points of the Blue Jays. Swarthmore notched six team blocks with
Isabelle Andrews, Alyssa Nathan, Emma Morgan-Bennett, Chloe Mayhue and
Alexa Bartlett adding a mark.
Entering the match, Johns Hopkins lost only seven sets in 27 contests. Swarthmore was held to a .155 hitting percentage on the match.
Mayhue led the Garnet with nine kills. The freshman added eight digs and a block assist.
Mehra den Braven recorded 15 digs, eight kills and one service ace.
Tyson recorded 23 assists, six digs and four kills in the semi-final match.
Sarah Carrasco finished the match with eight digs and two assists.
Swarthmore closed out the season with a record of 16-12.
