INDIANAPOLIS—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer's 2019 season will continue into the postseason after the Garnet received an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III tournament. The appearance is the eighth in program history and the first since 2012.
Swarthmore went 11-3-3 on the regular season and just missed a bid into the Centennial Conference Tournament. Swarthmore's resume was strong enough for the team to be considered by the NCAA selection committee for the at-large bid. Swarthmore was ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic and had a 7-0-1 record out of conference.
The Garnet travel to the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, and open the single-elimination tournament on Saturday against No. 17 Roanoke College. The Roanoke Maroons went 14-2-3 and lost in the ODAC Semifinals 2-1 to Washington & Lee. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The winner of that game plays the winner of host CNU and Eastern University on Sunday. The CNU Captains, ranked 23rd nationally, posted a 13-2-4 record and were stopped in PKs in the CAC Championship by Mary Washington. Eastern (11-9-1) is the only team in the pod to receive the automatic qualifier for the tournament. The Eagles won the MAC Freedom Championship over King's 3-1.
Of the three possible opponents in the pod, Swarthmore has only faced Eastern this year. The Garnet beat Eastern on the road in double overtime.
