SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore College Volleyball clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference tournament with a victory over Muhlenberg on Tuesday at Tarble Pavilion.
The Garnet swept the Mules with set scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21. Swarthmore improved to 15-10 and 6-3 in conference action, while Muhlenberg dropped to 10-14 and 3-6.
Early in the second set, the Garnet took a 4-0 advantage on a solo block from
Alyssa Nathan. The Garnet took a 9-2 advantage prior to Muhlenberg calling a timeout. Right out of the timeout,
Natalia Drobnjak recorded a service ace.
Swarthmore opened the third set by recording eight of the first nine points. With the help of
Sierra Tyson, Nathan recorded the match point for her fifth kill.
Tyson ended the match with 29 assist, 15 digs, three service aces and two kills.
Mehra den Braven added 15 kills, 10 digs, and five assist in the victory.
Isabelle Andrews notched five kills and three block assist. Drobnjak accounted for 15 digs and three assist.
As a team, Swarthmore notched 41 kills and a hitting .224% in the match. The Garnet held Muhlenberg to a .103 hitting percentage, and forced 19 errors. In the last ten matchups, Swarthmore is 7-3 against the Mules.
Swarthmore will travel to Haverford on Saturday to close out the regular season. A win would give Swarthmore the third seed in the conference tournament while a loss would put Swarthmore in fifth place.
