HOBOKEN, N.J. -- No. 22-ranked Swarthmore College Volleyball beat Kean University and lost to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at the final day of the Stevens Invitational.
The Garnet went 3-1 at the tournament, suffering their only loss of the season in eight matches. The 7-0 start was the first time the Garnet had ever won more than four matches to begin a season under 17th-year head coach
Harleigh Chwastyk.
Match One: Swarthmore 3, Kean 0
The Garnet swept three sets 25-17, 25-20, 25-18 against the Cougars (4-3).
Swarthmore surrendered the first three points of the match to Kean and trailed 8-5 in the first set. However, the Garnet wouldn't trail in a set again until they were down 5-4 in the third.
Junior
Emma Morgan-Bennett led Swarthmore in kills for the second time this season with 13. She recorded a .667 hitting percentage in the match and sits at .409 for the season after Saturday.
Sophomore
Alyssa Nathan led the Garnet with 26 assists and 11 dig to go along with seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage.
Match Two: Swarthmore 2, Stevens 3
The set scores in Swarthmore's first loss of the season against the Ducks (5-3) were 22-25, 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 13-15.
There were several lead changes in the match, and the two teams were never separated by more than six during any set.
Garnet junior outside hitter
Mehra den Braven recorded a career-high 26 kills. Her previous high was 20 as a freshman in the 2016 Centennial Conference title game that went five sets against Johns Hopkins.
Nathan had 59 assists, which is a career high and the most for a Swarthmore player in quite some time.

Sarah Girard (26).
The Garnet play Dickinson College next to begin Centennial Conference play in Carlisle, Pa.
