SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore College Field Hockey freshman forward
Marion Carr scored three goals in the team's 4-1 win over Neumann University at Clothier Field on Wednesday evening.
The Garnet (5-4) controlled the game, taking a season-high 33 shots in the victory. The Knights had two shots. Swarthmore's previous season high was 24.
All three of Carr's goals were the product of a penalty corner, and she now leads the team with five. On the first one with 10:30 left in the second half, sophomore
Samantha Meacock received the corner from sophomore
Ali Baratta and passed it to Carr for the score. Meacock had two assists in the game, and she leads the Garnet with five this season.
Carr's second goal gave Swarthmore a 2-0 lead during the 49th minute. This time, Carr took the corner from Baratta and ripped the shot from the top of the circle.
Garnet sophomore
Ellen Adams caged her second goal of the year on an improbable stick deflection over the goalie to give the Garnet a 3-0 advantage in the 56th minute. Meacock struck the ball hard from near midfield, and it rolled between a handful of Neumann defenders before reaching Adams' stick.
In a similar fashion to the way she scored her second goal, Carr scored her third and final goal with 2:46 remaining in the game.
Swarthmore returns to Centennial Conference play with a game at No. 12-ranked Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Lancaster, Pa.
