SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- No. 21-ranked Swarthmore College Women's Soccer beat Stevens Institute of Technology 2-0 on Sunday, marking the sixth year in a row that the Garnet have won each of their first two matches.
Each team only took two shots in the first half, and both of Swarthmore's found the back of the net.
Senior
Marin McCoy scored her second goal of the season during the 14th minute. The Garnet and Ducks were fighting for possession just in front of the goal until Swarthmore junior
Seneca Kinn-Gurzo popped the ball up right in front of the net for McCoy to head in.
Nearly 20 minutes later junior
Brittany Weiderhold scored on a breakaway that was set up by Kinn-Gurzo on a lob pass from the center of the field.
For the second game in a row senior
Amy Shmoys and freshman
Chantal Reyes combined for a shutout in the net. Shmoys had one save in the first half and Reyes had four while facing 10 shots in the second half.
The Garnet travel to Stevens in Hoboken, N.J., for a tournament in which they'll play Vassar at 8 p.m. on Friday and New York University at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
