#21 Garnet Start 4-0 For First Time Since 2005

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- No. 21-ranked Swarthmore College Volleyball defeated Moravian College and Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday, completing its trip to the Moravian Greyhound Premiere with a 4-0 record.

This is the first time since 2005 that the Garnet have begun a season with four straight wins. Swarthmore has never started a season 5-0 under 17th-year head coach Harleigh Chwastyk.

Senior libero Sarah Girard earned the tournament's Most Valuable Player honors, and junior middle blocker Emma Morgan-Bennett was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Match One: Swarthmore 3, Moravian 0

The Garnet beat Moravian 25-18, 25-14, 25-14, cruising to its third sweep in a row to open the season. It was the first time during Chwastyk's tenure that Swarthmore swept each of its first three matches.

Junior Mehra den Braven led the Garnet with four aces, nine kills and 13 digs against the Greyhounds.

Morgan-Bennett had eight kills with team highs in solo blocks (3) and block assists (4). Her hitting percentage was .300 in the match.

Sophomore Alyssa Nathan contributed with 10 digs and a team-best 22 assists.

Match Two: Swarthmore 3, Baldwin Wallace 1

Swarthmore had its streak of nine-set win streak snapped against the Yellow Jackets. The Garnet lost the first one 25-19 but bounced back to win the next three 25-19, 28-26, 25-22.

Nathan recorded career highs in assists (44) and digs (11) in the victory.

Den Braven's 15 kills led Swarthmore. She's led the team in kills in all four matches this season.

Morgan-Bennett added six block assists and 10 kills. In the first four matches she's recorded hitting percentages of .538, .800, .300 and .333. Her percentages in the first two years of her career were .253 and .243, respectively.

Girard contributed with an early season-high 30 digs in the match. The program's all-time leader in digs played in all 32 matches last season and notched 30-plus digs five times.

Next up the Garnet will head to the Stevens Invitational in Hoboken, N.J., for four matches on Sept. 7 and 8.
