Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Stopped By No. 1 Gettysburg

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse hosted the No. 1 Gettysburg College Bullets on Saturday afternoon, and did what it could to contain the defending national champions. However, Gettysburg took the contest 16-3.

Mackenzie Frost, Kathryn Restrepo and Andie Battin all scored for Swarthmore. All of Swarthmore's goals came on free-position shots.

The Garnet attempted 28 shots in total, two more than Gettysburg, but Gettysburg's goalies Bailey Pilder and Casey Cole defended the net staunchly, combining for 13 saves.

Betsy Cohen recorded five saves in net for the Garnet.

Defensively, Swarthmore directly caused nine of Gettysburg's 16 turnovers. The Garnet, meanwhile, only turned the ball over nine times in total.

Gettysburg held a 12-9 advantage on the draw control, but the teams were even at 14-14 on ground balls. Swarthmore was slightly better at the clear game, just missing two opportunities.

Frost and Tess Wild led Swarthmore with three draws each. Battin added two more and Julia Ostrowski had the other. Wild provided a team-high four ground balls.

Swarthmore is now 7-2 this season overall, with its only two losses coming at the hands of two of the top teams in the country.

The Garnet play their final two non-conference games of the season this week beginning with Arcadia University on Monday at 7 p.m.
