LANCASTER, Pa.--Swarthmore College Softball won one 4-3 and lost one 3-0 at Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday.
The Garnet (14-8 overall, 4-4 Centennial Conference) were led by four hits on the day from senior
Frankie Ponziani against the Diplomats (14-12, 6-4).
Game One: Franklin & Marshall 3, Swarthmore 0
Senior
Emily Bowman (3-3) pitched a complete game for Swarthmore and struck out six. However, she allowed one run in the first and two in the fourth, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Ponziani and freshman Vicotria Overbeck had two hits apiece, and sophomore
Marisa Mancini doubled.
Game Two: Swarthmore 4, Franklin & Marshall 3
The Garnet overcame a 2-0 first-inning deficit and piled 12 hits on the Diplomats in 10 innings.
Swarthmore's first runs came in the second and third inning on RBIs from Ponziani and sophomore
Gabriella Natoli.
Sophomore
Kennedy Kings was responsible for the other two Garnet RBIs. Her single to right field in the fifth inning scored junior
Marit Vike, and fly out in the top of the 10th resulted in Natoli's game-winning run.
Bowman pitched the first two innings, freshman
Lucy Decker pitched the next 6.2, and senior
Mary Olesnavich picked up her first win of the season by pitching the last 1.1.
Sophomores Kali Segel and
Emilie Morse as well as junior
Elizabeth Curcio all added two hits in the win.
Swarthmore will compete in its third straight road doubleheader on Sunday against Gettysburg College (13-11, 9-1) beginning at 1 p.m.
