SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Wednesday night's women's lacrosse contest, featuring 8-2 teams Swarthmore College and Moravian College, went down to the wire with Swarthmore holding on for the 11-10 win over the Greyhounds.
With just 56 seconds to go, Swarthmore's sophomore goalie Betsy Cohen recorded a save to secure the one-goal victory for the Garnet. Cohen notched seven saves in the win.
Offensively, Elizabeth Wainwright led the Garnet with three goals for her fifth game this season with three or more goals. Tess Wild tallied a pair of goals and had an assist to go along with four draw controls. Sophomore Bridget Silveira also posted two goals and led Swarthmore with three caused turnovers.
Kathryn Restrepo, Andie Battin, Bella Levine and Sydnie Schwarz each scored a goal as well.
The Greyhounds scored the game's first goal, but Swarthmore netted the next four. Wainwright cashed in on her third goal of the game with 7:24 to play off an assist from Chiang to complete the hat trick and put Swarthmore ahead 6-3 with 7:42 to play.
With 3:26 left in the first half, Swarthmore reached its biggest lead of the game, 8-3, off a player-up goal from Levine. The player-up goal was the second of the game for the Garnet who capitalized on three Moravian yellow cards.
Moravian scored the next three goals and then the two teams traded goals over the next 14 minutes. Swarthmore held a three-goal lead with 6:46 left. Goals from Moravian's Liz Bill, who finished with a game-high six goals on the night, brought the Greyhounds within one score with 4:20 remaining. Swarthmore resisted the late charge and held on for the one-goal win.
The Garnet conclude their non-conference schedule with a 6-0 record in those games. Swarthmore plays at 3 p.m. on Saturday against the Dickinson College Red Devils.
