Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Garnet Nipped By Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa.—A slow start Wednesday night hurt Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse on the road at Muhlenberg College. The Garnet fell behind 5-0 to the Mules in the first quarter, and while the Garnet battled back, they couldn't completely overcome that deficit and fell 10-9.

Austin Chang and Jake Ross each scored three goals to lead Swarthmore. Zander Levitz chipped in two goals and Nathaniel Johns added one.

After going down by five in the first quarter, Swarthmore rallied for the next four starting with a man-up goal by Ross 33 seconds into the second period.

Chang scored less than three minutes later and then Ross and Chang alternated goals to make it a 5-4 game. Swarthmore unfortunately was never able to tie the game, and Muhlenberg responded with two goals in 53 seconds to keep Swarthmore at arm's length.

Swarthmore again pulled within one at 7-6 early in the third and then at 9-8 with 11:21 remaining in the fourth. After Muhlenberg scored again, Swarthmore pulled within one with 1:53 to play on Levitz's second goal. Swarthmore then won the resulting faceoff but turned the ball over twice in the final two minutes, failing to find the equalizer.

Garnet freshman Ryan Izquierdo won 13-of-19 faceoff attempts, including seven of the game's first eight draws.

Freshman Frankie Dillon made the start in goal and recorded 14 saves in the loss.

Swarthmore continues conference play on Saturday at noon against #10 Dickinson College.
