SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse improved to 4-0 in 2018 with
a 15-2 win at home on Saturday over the visiting Eastern University Eagles.
The Garnet pounced for 13 goals in the first half, and after establishing a comfortable lead, slowed down their pace in the second half, adding two more goals.
Five Garnet players scored a pair of goals.
Andie Battin,
Bella Levine,
Elizabeth Wainwright,
Sydnie Schwarz and
Taylor Chiang led the way with two goals.
Sophie Peipher and
Tess Wild scored a goal as well as freshmen
Julia Ostrowski,
Kacy Hafertepe and
Mackenzie Frost.
Swarthmore scored the first 14 goals of the game and issued the running clock with 7:24 to play in the first half.
The Garnet out-shot the visiting Eagles 27-8 and held an 11-7 advantage on draw controls. Battin led Swarthmore by gathering three draw controls. Ostrowski and Hafertepe both had two draw controls.
Perhaps Swarthmore's biggest advantage of the game came on defending the clear. Swarthmore held Eastern to just nine successful clears on 19 attempts. The Garnet completed 11-of-12 clears successfully.
Betsy Cohen recorded one save in the first 40 minutes in the net, and
Lily Fornof added three more to wrap up the game.
Swarthmore continues non-conference play on Tuesday against Arcadia University at 7 p.m.
