Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Garnet Top Gophers With Most Lopsided Win Since 2015

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore College Women's Basketball picked up its first victory of the season in grand fashion in its home opener on Friday night, defeating Goucher College 80-46.

The 80-point outing was the highest for the Garnet (1-1) since an 87-83 loss against Geneva College on Nov. 18, 2016. They haven't scored that many points in a win or beat an opponent by more than 34 since they defeated Bryn Mawr College 89-26 on Feb. 11, 2015.

Sophomore forward Kendall Tribus drained a three to give Swarthmore a 13-10 lead with 1:42 left in the first quarter. The Garnet never trailed again. Tribus finished with 10 points.

Garnet sophomore guard Faith Nation and freshman forward Erin Cronin, both new to the team this season, have been the team's top two scorers in each of the first two games. They dropped 14 apiece against the Gophers (0-2).

Swarthmore sophomore Jayna Jones grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds on Friday. Her previous high was five, which she totaled twice last season.

Junior guards Elizabeth Stiles and Abigail Pirron had nice all-around games in the win. Stiles had nine points, eight assists and three rebounds. Pirron had 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Swarthmore's 48.7 field-goal percentage was also its best in a game since that big win over the Owls four seasons ago.

The Garnet will try to stay hot with another home game against Wesleyan University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
