SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore College Volleyball lost to non-conference opponent Salisbury University in five sets on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet (11-4) had won 16 straight home matches with their last loss at Tarble Pavilion coming against Haverford on Oct. 29, 2016.
Swarthmore took the first two sets from the Seagulls (12-6) but lost the next three. The scores were 25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 10-25, 11-15.
The Garnet never trailed in the first set and took a 16-5 lead at one point. They also won the second set comfortably by taking a 10-9 advantage and never giving up the lead after that.
Swarthmore also led for the majority of the third set. The Garnet had a 16-9 lead before losing 11 of the next 14 points. Salisbury won the fourth set with ease and also was never behind in the fifth set.
Senior libero
Sarah Girard had 29 digs for Swarthmore, her second highest total of the season behind a 30-dig performance in a four-set over Baldwin Wallace on Sept. 1.
Junior outside hitter
Mehra den Braven had a match-high 13 kills.
The Garnet return to Centennial Conference action with a match at Bryn Mawr on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
