Volleyball Clinches Playoff Spot Despite Loss At Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa -- Swarthmore College Volleyball lost in four sets at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night. However, since sixth-place Gettysburg College lost as well, the Garnet (13-9, 6-3) have clinched at least the No. 5 seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament.

Swarthmore is currently slated to play the Mules (19-7, 6-3) in the play-in game of the tournament on Oct. 31. That said, the Garnet can climb as high as the No. 3 seed if they defeat Haverford College in their final regular season game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Tarble Pavilion.

The semifinals of the tournament are on Nov. 3, and the championship is on Nov. 4. Swarthmore has advance to the final and lost to Johns Hopkins University each of the last two years.

On Wednesday, Swarthmore lost the first set 25-16, won the next set 25-12 and lost the last two sets 25-22 and 25-23.

Garnet junior middle blocker Emma Morgan-Bennett recorded a team-high 14 kills. Junior outside hitter Mehra den Braven was second with 13, leaving her two shy of becoming the seventh player in Swarthmore volleyball history to reach 1,000 for her career.

Swarthmore senior Sarah Girard had a match-high 20 digs. She needs 33 more to become the first player in Garnet history to record 2,000 digs.
