Riya Garg and
Ali Baratta each found the back of the net for the Swarthmore College field hockey team (1-1) in a 6-2 loss to host Arcadia on Sunday, Sep. 3.
Garg and
Sophie Peipher also recorded assists on the afternoon. Both teams made six saves and Swarthmore was narrowly edged out in corners by a 17-15 margin.
The Knights were ahead by two at the half and led 4-0 before Swarthmore notched its first goal. On a penalty corner, Peipher fed the ball to Garg, who shot to the short side for her first tally of the season.
Arcadia added another goal after a series of corners and completed its scoring in the 62nd minute for a 6-1 advantage. Shortly after, Garg put a shot toward goal and Baratta cleaned up the rebound, recording her second goal of the weekend.
Garg finished the game with five shots on goal to lead the Swarthmore attack and
Zelda Bank stopped six shots between the pipes. The Garnet will play their home opener on Wednesday, Sep. 6 against Stockton University at 4:30 p.m.
