Men's Lacrosse Fights Off Green Terror In Overtime

SWARTHMORE, Pa.--Freshman Zander Levitz ripped the game-winning goal on Saturday, scoring just 41 seconds into overtime to lift Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse over the McDaniel College Green Terror. The score ended a 15-minute drought for the Garnet and gave them the 10-9 senior day win.

Levitz also had scored twice during regulation and had an assist. Junior attack Cam Marsh tallied a game-high four goals and had an assist as well for his fourth game this season with at least five points. Marsh is third in the conference this year in points scored with 52.

Matt Johnson scored a pair of goals, and senior Graham Lesko added a goal.

Jake Ross led Swarthmore with two assists.

Swarthmore caused 11 McDaniel turnovers with sophomore Tommy Ferguson leading the team with three caused turnovers.

In the faceoff game, Swarthmore was dominant through the first half and finished with a 16-6 advantage. The Garnet out-drew the visitors 12-1 in the first half. Senior Stephen Ducey won 15-of-19 faceoff attempts and is facing off at 62 percent this year, the highest percentage in the conference for players with more than 150 faceoff attempts this year.
In net for the Garnet, Cole Fox recorded eight saves.

Swarthmore dropped in the first two goals of the game and then responded to a McDaniel goal with a strike 13 seconds before the end of the first quarter. The Garnet quickly worked a clear after Ferguson forced a turnover. Precise passing led to Ross darting a pass from the left wing to Marsh who was posting up in front of the crease ready to score.

After McDaniel led off with a goal in the second, Swarthmore scored four straight goals to go up 7-2 with five minutes left in the first half. The Green Terror scored twice to close out the half on the Garnet's heels 7-4.

Swarthmore scored the only goal of the third, a man-up tally by Johnson with 1:25 to go. Lesko blasted a goal in transition 30 seconds into the fourth quarter to give Swarthmore the five-goal advantage again. However, as the fourth progressed, McDaniel netted five consecutive goals to even the count at 9-9 with 2:24 to play.

In overtime, Swarthmore secured the overtime faceoff and scored the sudden victory goal within 41 seconds on Levitz's goal.

At 3-3 in Centennial Conference play this season, Swarthmore is now in a three-way tie for fourth with Ursinus College and Washington College. Swarthmore hosts Washington on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
