SWARTHMORE, Pa.–Freshman
Sawyer Lake allowed four hits and struck out eight in six innings as the Swarthmore College baseball team fell by a 2-0 score to the visiting Drew Rangers on Wednesday, March 29.
Classmate
James Rutledge also tossed two scoreless innings with one hit and two strikeouts.
The Garnet offense managed twobase hits with one from freshman catcher
Kenji Yoshii and one from sophomore
Conor Elliott. Swarthmore loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth inning, but were unable to find the first run of the contest.
The Rangers were held off the board until the ninth when they brought in two runs on a hit by pitch and walk respectively. With one out and the bases loaded, Swarthmore escaped further damage by inducing a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. In the final frame,
Matt Palmer reached first after being hit by a pitch, but Swarthmore could not find further baserunners and fell to 6-13 on the year.
The baseball team remains at Clothier Field for a 3:30 p.m. game against DeSales Unviersity on Thursday, March 30.
