SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Swimming held off the Dickinson College Red Devils on Saturday afternoon 117-88. Swarthmore closed out the 2016-17 dual meet schedule with a 7-2 record overall and 5-2 mark in conference play, third best in the Centennial Conference season this year.
The Garnet held an 88-81 lead going into the second to last event, the 200-yard breaststroke. Swarthmore ruled out any chance of a Dickinson upset by sweeping first, second and third place in the 200 breaststroke. Sophomores Liz Staton (2:31.06), Sarah Solomon (2:37.28) and Sierra Bienz (2:37.70) captured the top three spots, giving Swarthmore some breathing room and a 20-point lead.
Staton won two individual events in the contest, capturing first in the 50 free sprint with a time of 25.78. Staton also was a part of the winning 400 medley relay team that led off the meet.
Sophomore Emily Bley posted a season best in the 200 IM, winning by three seconds with a time of 2:16.13.
Clare Cushing picked up Swarthmore's other individual win, claiming first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:13.02. The Garnet finished first in six of 11 events and had second-place finishes in seven of the events.
Swarthmore honored its four seniors prior to the meet: Erica Flor, Abby Byrne, Zora Kosoff and Emma Eppley. The four combined for a senior relay team in the final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay, and finished in third with a time of 1:49.13.
Next week, the Garnet compete in the Franklin & Marshall Invitational, one final round of prep before the Centennial Conference Championship.
