DOYLESTOWN, Pa.—No. 14 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball pulled away from the Delaware Valley University Aggies in the second half on Saturday for a 75-61 win.
For the third time this season, the Garnet entered halftime tied with their opponents. Today the score at the break had the teams deadlocked at 38-38.
Both teams shot well in the first half with Swarthmore connecting on 58.3 percent of shots and Del Val an even 50 percent. The drop-off in the second was significant for both teams as Swarthmore slipped to 40.6 percent and Del Val tumbled to just 26.7 percent. With the volume of missed shots increasing, Swarthmore capitalized on earning more possessions, grabbing 28 second-half rebounds to Del Val's 17.
Forward Robbie Walsh led Swarthmore with 17 points while going 6-for-7 from the floor and 5-for-7 from the line. Walsh gathered nine rebounds and added two blocks. Fellow forward Zac O'Dell posted 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Jim Lammers connected on two 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.
The Garnet found themselves down a basket with 10 minutes to play in the game. Cam Wiley got to the hoop for a layup to even the game and a free throw by O'Dell with 8:31 play gave Swarthmore the lead for good.
A 12-0 run beginning with a Walsh layup with 3:24 to go helped seal the game for the Garnet. Lammers splashed a corner 3-pointer to make it a seven-point lead with 2:52 to go. Zack Yonda, in a great display of hustle, tracked down his own missed shot and then dribbled back out to the right corner for a 3-pointer to give Swarthmore its first double-digit lead of the game at 69-59.
Swarthmore continues non-conference play with a road game at York (Pa.) on Wednesday.
