BALTIMORE, Md.—No. 23 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer slipped on the road Saturday afternoon at No. 11 Johns Hopkins University by a score of 2-0.
Swarthmore tallied five shots on goal and 11 total attempts in just their second Centennial Conference loss of the season. Swarthmore slipped to 4-2 in Centennial play while Hopkins improved to a league-best 7-0.
The Garnet had a chance to go ahead in the 16th minute after earning a penalty kick. However,
Marin McCoy's attempt was saved by Hopkins' Bess Kitzmiller who recorded three saves in 53 minutes. Robyn Lipschultz came in to record two saves in the final 37 minutes. In Swarthmore's goal,
Amy Shmoys notched six saves.
Hopkins' Emily Maheras netted the first score of the game in the 33rd minute.
In the second half, three minutes in, McCoy snapped off a shot from inside the 18 that was only denied by a diving save.
In the 51st minute, Shmoys came up with a big diving save on a point-blank shot to keep it a one-goal game.
McCoy had another shot on goal saved from about 12 yards out and then Hopkins netted its second goal in the 71st minute.
Swarthmore plays a pair of Centennial contests this week against Bryn Mawr College and Gettysburg College.
