GLASSBORO, N.J.–In its final nonconference match of the regular season, the Swarthmore College volleyball team (15-5) picked up a 3-1 victory over the homestanding Rowan University Profs and extended its win streak to nine in the process.

Swarthmore cruised to a 25-12 first set win with a .290 attack percentage and staunch defense against the Profs. The Garnet continued to hit efficiently in the second as they posted a .300 mark on 17 kills and five errors in 40 attempts. A 5-0 run to start the frame set an early tone as the visitors led by as many as 10 throughout.
The Profs countered in the third, edging the Garnet by a 26-28 score in a set that featured 15 ties. Wallace swung seven kills in the frame, including a crucial one that tied things up at 23 apiece. Rowan took the next point before Swarthmore evened the affair and gained a match point chance on a solo block by Morgan-Bennett. Rowan recovered, saved another match point and then took two straight to force a fourth set.
The Profs got off to a strong start in the final set and led by as many as five at 14-9, but Swarthmore took seven of the next eight points to surge ahead. The teams traded the lead for a while until another big Swarthmore run with Wallace serving tilted the momentum to the Garnet for good.
Malia Scott and
Alice Liu buried kills down the stretch and a Rowan error sealed the win for Swarthmore.
The volleyball team travels to 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins on Saturday, Oct. 14 for a rematch of the 2016 Centennial Conference Championship. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
