SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer collided with No. 7 Franklin & Marshall College in the Centennial Conference opener on Saturday evening.
The visiting Diplomats, led by Jason Tonelli's hat trick, held off the Garnet 3-1. Swarthmore evened out to 3-3 overall this season while F&M improved to 5-0-2.
Michael Thut was called on to make eight saves between the posts, including back-to-back saves in the final seconds of the first half.
Swarthmore attempted four first-half shots and followed up with three more in the second. Trailing 3-0 in the second half, Swarthmore ended the shutout in the 80th minute. Garnet freshman
Quentin Millette became the first rookie to score for the team this year. Millette's first collegiate goal came from a tough angle. He worked his way to the goal line left of the box and fired a shot into the upper right corner.
The Garnet continue the season at home on Wednesday with a non-conference game against St. Mary's College of Maryland.
