SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse advanced to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship after doubling up the Johnson & Wales (RI) Wildcats 16-8 on Saturday. The Garnet, the tournament's top seed, will square off with the No. 2 seed Stockton University Ospreys at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the title game.

Swarthmore sophomore attackman Matt Johnson led the charge with a season-high five goals. Johnson tagged the Wildcats twice in the first half and then scored three more in the third. He leads the Garnet with 35 goals this season.

Cam Marsh, Nathan Relich and Braeden DeWan each scored twice in the win. Dylan Rittenhouse, Griffin Johnston, Conor Clark, Sam Merritt and Daniel Palmer all chimed in with a goal as well. Palmer, a senior, registered his first collegiate goal.

Faceoff specialist Mike Selverian started Swarthmore out on the right track by winning the first 11 faceoffs he took. With the faceoff game firmly established, Swarthmore experimented with eight other players at the faceoff and finished the game successful on 20-of-28 attempts.

Goalie Cole Fox kept the Wildcats scoreless through the first half with four saves. John Calia added four saves in the third quarter, and Matt Lee had two in the fourth.

The Garnet posted the game's first 10 goals. They started out slow in the first quarter, hindered by a few early turnovers, but found a rhythm toward the end of the first period. Johnson scored the first goal of the contest nearly 10 minutes in and Johnston followed less than a minute later. The Garnet blasted six goals in the second quarter and added six more in the third quarter.
Relich scored both of his goals in the fourth to cap Swarthmore's scoring.  

Back in the ECAC Tournament for the first time since 2008, the Garnet go for the regional championship Sunday at 1 p.m. against Stockton University.
