HAVERFORD, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse closed out the 2016 season on the road at Haverford College on Saturday. Swarthmore freshman
Tess Wild scored a team-high four goals in the 11-9 loss.
Kathryn Restrepo added a pair of goals for the Garnet.
Elizabeth Wainwright,
Briana Narzikul and
Emily Sokol all scored a goal. Senior
Connie Bowen tallied 14 saves to give her 360 saves for her career.
The Fords and Garnet battled to an even 6-6 score through the first half. Haverford struck for three quick goals, but Swarthmore countered after a timeout with Wainwright's unassisted goal with 21:23 left in the half. Haverford added a player-up two minutes later, but Wild scored her first of the game off a pass from Wainwright to keep Swarthmore within two.
After Haverford added two more goals, Swarthmore closed out the half with a vengeance, scoring four in the final seven minutes. Wild scored back-to-back goals and then Narzikul whipped in a goal with 3:18 left in the period to pull Swarthmore within one. Wild equalized the game at 6-6 with a free-position shot with 2:41 to go.
The Fords went on a 5-0 run to start the second half. Swarthmore rallied late;
Kathryn Restrepo sparked a three-goal spree with eight minutes remaining. Her goal with 2:54 to play pulled Swarthmore within two. The Garnet put two more shots on goal in the final minute, but weren't able to close the gap.
The Garnet graduate six seniors and are slated to return eight letter winners next season.
