SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College softball team wrapped up its season at home on Saturday, April 30 with a pair of losses to the visiting Ursinus College Bears. Ursinus took game one by a 5-0 score and edged Swarthmore, 1-0, in the night cap.
Between games, the Garnet honored lone senior member
Christen Boas Hayes, an honors political science major from Havertown, Pa.
In game one, junior outfielder Sarah Planthaber had two hits, including a double, and
Marit Vike stole her 26th base of the season, tying the single-season Centennial Conference record for a freshman. Classmate
Amanda Lopez also had a hit for the Garnet.
The nightcap featured strong pitching from both sides as neither team could get its offense going. Sophomore
Emily Bowman pitched seven strong innings in the circle, striking out seven and walking none with one run surrendered in the game.
Elizabeth Curcio singled in the bottom of the seventh, but Swarthmore was unable to put the tying run on the board.
The Garnet are slated to return 13 letterwinners for the 2017 season, including 11 underclassmen.
