CENTER VALLEY, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Basketball's 2015-16 campaign came to a close on Sunday in the ECAC South Championship with an 89-71 loss to Neumann University. The Garnet (22-8) finished the season with a program-best win total.
The Garnet had four players in double-figures.
Robbie Walsh led the way with 15 blocks on a 7-for-12 shooting afternoon.
Matt Brennan and
Jim Lammers each posted 11 points, and
Henry Cousineau scored 10.
Shane Loeffler and
Michael Rubayo added nine each, and
Zack Yonda chipped in six.
Neumann also had four players with 10 or more; Deshawn Lowman posted a game-high 26 points.
Swarthmore led for most of the first seven minutes of the game, but Neumann caught the Garnet at 15-15 with 12:51 to play in the first.
A 3-pointer by
Shane Loeffler returned the lead to Swarthmore 23-21 with 10:38 to go. However, a 12-2 Neumann run over the next four minutes gave the Knights the lead and they were able to maintain it the rest of the way.
Swarthmore responded with a quick 8-0 run to pull within one, 34-33, with 2:51 remaining in the half. Neumann posted a 9-0 run to close the first half and open the second.
Back-to-back layups by Walsh brought Swarthmore within six points with 13:50 to go, but then Neumann went on another run, this time for 11 points, and pulled away from the Garnet.
Neumann finished ahead of the Garnet in field goal percentage 47.5 to 39.7 percent. Perhaps the most notable statistical variation was Neumann's 20 more attempts from the free-throw line. The Knights went 25-for-33 while the Garnet shot 7-for-13 from the charity stripe.
