SWARTHMORE, Pa.–For the first time this season, the Swarthmore College baseball team (14-4) lost at home as it fell to the visiting Widener Pride (9-5) by an 11-4 score on Tuesday, March 22.
Sophomore designated hitter Joe Jackson hit his team-leading third home run of the season, a solo shot to left field in the sixth inning, and finished with two hits. Freshman
Charles Levitt also had a pair of base knocks as
Roy Walker and
Cal Barnett-Mayotte each drove in a run.
Widener took advantage of five hits and two errors for a 4-0 lead after one and added four more to board in the third. The Garnet shrank its deficit behind two runs in the fourth as Walker drove in Barnett-Mayotte with a triple and later scored on a wild pitch. Swarthmore scored again in the fifth with a bases-loaded walk and completed its scoring on Jackson's homer.
