Garnet Clipped By Blue Jays In Centennial Semifinal

WESTMINSTER, Md.—Swarthmore College Women's Soccer fell 3-1 in the Centennial Conference Semifinals on Saturday to the second-seeded Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays. The third-seeded Garnet will hope that their 14-3 overall record this season will be strong enough to earn an at-large nod to next week's NCAA Tournament. The Garnet remain ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic region by the NCAA and will find out whether they made the tournament during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 1:30 p.m.

Swarthmore scored in the 75th minute. Marin McCoy crossed a pass across from the left side to Dougherty who was cutting middle from the right wing.  Katie Dougherty won the ball before Hopkins keeper Clara Aranguren could intercept it. Dougherty, with the keeper beat, took her time to send in a goal into the empty net.

Dougherty's goal, her seventh of the year, trimmed Swarthmore's deficit to 2-1. Hopkins had scored in the 38th and 49th minutes.
Hopkins' Meg Van de Loo delivered the dagger in the 84th minute with her 19th goal of the season.

Swarthmore goalkeeper Sydney Hunter recorded five saves in the loss; she is 7-3 on the season in goal. The Garnet scored on one of their two shots on goal. Hopkins held a 16-4 advantage in total shots in the contests. Swarthmore's offensive chances were limited by five offsides violations.
