COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Swimming faced defending Centennial Conference champion Ursinus College on Tuesday evening, falling to the Bears 148.5-108.5. The setback is the first loss this season for the Garnet (4-1).
The Garnet earned first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 500-yard freestyle. Liz Staton led the Garnet to a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.55. Staton trailed teammate Sayaka Vaules in the first lap but took the lead with a 37.38 second lap. Vaules finished second with a time of 1:11.13.
Swarthmore freshman Clare Cushing won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:33.78 nearly seven seconds faster than the runner-up from Ursinus.
Swarthmore (4-1) swims at the Gettysburg College Invite on Dec. 2.
