BRYN MAWR, Pa.–The Swarthmore college volleyball team (22-3, 8-1 CC) won its sixth consecutive match by a 3-0 score with a 25-21, 25-15, 27-25 victory over the Bryn Mawr College Owls (5-17, 0-10 CC) on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
With Johns Hopkins' win over McDaniel earlier in the evening, the Garnet also secured the second overall seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament.
Sarah Wallace and
Mehra den Braven each tallied 13 kills as Wallace also led the team with 18 digs.
Elise Cummings recorded a double-double behind 20 assists and 12 digs while
Lelosa Aimufua put down four solo blocks.
The Garnet prevailed in a tight first set and rode a .273 attack percentage in the second frame to a quick 25-15 win while limiting the Owls to a .000 mark.
Emma Morgan-Bennett had four of her seven kills in the set and Wallace notched five digs.
The third set featured nine ties and six lead changes as the hosts threatened to push the match to a fourth frame. Trailing 18-16, the Owls gained an advantage and forced a Swarthmore timeout with a four-point streak. Swarthmore evened the game coming out of the break and eventually gained a match-point opportunity at 24-22. Bryn Mawr, however, saved two set points and gained one of their own before the Garnet closed the match with three straight points.
The volleyball team closes the regular season and celebrates Senior Day and Garnet Weekend festivities against Haverford on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
