Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Garnet Success At Tarble Continues

Swarthmore is now 8-0 at home this season.

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Without the Centennial Conference's leading field goal shooter, starting forward Chris Bourne, for the second straight game, Swarthmore College Men's Basketball had to find another way to win Saturday. The Garnet held off the McDaniel College Green Terror 59-54 while shooting 53.7 percent form the floor and 57.9 percent from 3-point territory.

Swarthmore swingman Sam Lebryk made 4-of-5 3-point attempts for all 12 of his points. Forward Robbie Walsh matched Lebryk for the team-high. Walsh shot 6-for-8 in the post.

Zack Yonda added 10 points, and Henry Cousineau scored nine on three treys. Cousineau knocked down a 3-pointer with 5:03 remaining that ended up giving Swarthmore the lead for good.

The lead changed 18 times in the contest; Swarthmore maintained a lead for 24:33 of the game while McDaniel had the advantage for 10 minutes.

With 6:44 left in the first half, Swarthmore trailed by one, but then Lebryk and Matt Brennan made 3-pointers on consecutive possessions. McDaniel pulled within one with 3:15 to play, but Yonda went on a personal 5-0 run to close out the half. Swarthmore went into the locker room ahead 32-26.

McDaniel caught up to Swarthmore in the second half and took a three-point lead with 11:55 to go. Treys by Christian Rhodes and Lebryk on back-to-back possessions gave Swarthmore a brief 45-44 lead. With 7:05 to go, a Lebryk 3-pointer gave Swarthmore a 50-48 lead.

McDaniel's Cameron Royster then scored back-to-back layups to give the Green Terror the advantage. At 5:42 Walsh muscled his way to a layup to even the game, and then Cousineau supplied the dagger on the next possession to give Swarthmore a 55-52 lead. Walsh added another layup at 1:26, but McDaniel countered with a Stewart hook-shot to make it a one-possesion game with 55 seconds to play.

McDaniel went for the tie and missed two 3-pointers in the final 20 seconds. Lebryk secured the defensive rebound with seven seconds left, and Swarthmore held on for the win.

The Garnet improved to 12-3 overall with the win and 6-2 in the Centennial Conference. The win gives Swarthmore one more victory than it had all of last season and marks the first time since 2003-04 that the Garnet have had at least 12 wins.

Swarthmore is now 8-0 at home this season.

Swarthmore embarks on a three-game road trip starting on Wednesday at Muhlenberg College.
