READING, Pa.—Swarthmore College Field Hockey netted three goals between the 55th and 60th minutes of Thursday afternoon's game at Albright College, but the second-half comeback attempt wasn't enough to close the gap between the Garnet and the Lions. The Garnet kept pace with the Lions in the second half but fell by a final score of 8-4.
Swarthmore senior forward
Erin Gluck led the Garnet with two goals, including one on a penalty stroke. Gluck has gone 2-for-2 on strokes this season.
Clare Perez and
Jane Blicher also scored for the Garnet, both off of corners.
Albright tallied the game's first two goals, scoring in the 11th and 15th minutes before Gluck scored the Garnet's first goal in the 22nd minute.
Audrey Allen provided the helper on the score.
The Lions, however, strung together five consecutive goals to close out the first period and open the second, making it a bleak 7-1 game with just over 20 minutes to play. The Garnet didn't quit and began to chip away with three consecutive goals. Perez scored her goal in the 55th minute, Blicher added a goal in the 58th and Gluck contributed the penalty stroke goal in the 60th minute to pull Swarthmore within three.
Albright scored in the 67th minute to cap the game's scoring at 8-4.
Swarthmore's
Ainsley Parrish recorded nine saves and
Zelda Bank had two.
Maggie O'Neill recorded a defensive save.
Albright's goalkeeper Aileen Taylor recorded six saves to take the victory.
The Garnet are back in conference play on Saturday when they face Dickinson College on the road at 11 a.m.
