ASTON, Pa.—Swarthmore College Field Hockey evened the score with Neumann University just before halftime, but the Neumann Knights out-scored the Garnet 2-1 in the second half to take the game 3-2.
Junior defender
Katherine Ianni scored the Garnet's first goal, placing into the back of the cage with just 14 seconds remaining in the first period. After
Ursula Monaghan inserted the ball on a penalty corner,
Erin Gluck found Ianni for her second goal of the season. Ianni's goal evened the score at 1-1 going into halftime. Neumann had scored the game's first goal just 2:48 earlier.
Neumann's Beck Guinto added a goal in the 53rd minute off a penalty corner and then she posted another goal in the 59th minute.
Swarthmore earned a penalty stroke with five seconds remaining in the game which Gluck sank to bring the Garnet within one.
The Garnet have begin conference play on Saturday when they host No. 4 Franklin & Marshall at 1 p.m.
