WESTMINSTER, Md.—Swarthmore College Women's Swimming pulled off a 66-56 win over Centennial Conference opponent McDaniel College on Saturday to start the 2015-16 season.
The meet hinged on the final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay. Swarthmore earned the seven points with a win by Liz Staton,
Jillian Haywood,
Amelia Tomei and
Sophie Moody in 1:43.92. McDaniel finished just 0:00.28 behind Swarthmore in the event.
Swarthmore had 10 freshmen participating in their first collegiate competition. Freshman
Emily Bley won three events: the 200-yard IM, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.
Amelia Tomei, who was on that key freestyle relay team, also won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:22.62.
Swarthmore competes against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday at 4 p.m.
