SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer fell 1-0 at home on Wednesday evening in a non-conference test with the Rowan University Profs.
The loss marks another tough break for the Garnet who have dropped four contests by that same score this season, all of which were against teams ranked in the top-10 in their region.
Rowan (10-2) scored the game's lone goal in the 28th minute off a corner kick swung in from the right side of the field that was headed in by 6-foot-3 centerback Will Sjaastad. The shot was one of 13 for the Profs. Swarthmore goalkeeper
Tyler Zon was hit with another tough loss; he recorded one save in the game.
The Garnet took nine shots in the game and worked Rowan goalkeeper Kyle Dennis with five shots on target. Swarthmore's Rodrigo_Hernandez had a breakaway opportunity in the 13th minute that appeared like it could lead to the game's first goal; however, his progress was stopped outside of the box by a sliding Dennis who handled the ball. Dennis was issued a yellow card and remained in the game. The Garnet were then unable to convert the resulting free kick.
Swarthmore's
Marc Geschwind had a strong chance in the 75th minute to equalize the game, but his low, hard shot by stopped with a diving save on the goal line.
The Garnet's 2015 composite strength of schedule this season is ranked the fourth toughest in Division III. The seven losses this season have come against opponents with a combined record of 59-9-9. It doesn't get any easier for the Garnet when they return to Centennial Conference play on Saturday against Gettysburg (7-2-1).
